The Story
Built in 1933 by Jack Schore, this 'house and canopy' style station became Ambler's in 1938 when Basil 'Tubby' Ambler purchased it. Ambler owned it for 28 years during Route 66's most significant period, and his name stuck.
The station pumped gas until 1999 - an incredible 66 years of service on Route 66. In 2005, the village of Dwight received a $10,400 federal cost-share grant for restoration. In 2007, it reopened as a visitor center and museum, complete with vintage pumps and period signage.
