The Story

J.P. Walters and his son-in-law John Geske opened the Dixie Truckers Home in 1928, two years after Route 66 was commissioned. The truck stop became legendary among long-haul drivers for its home cooking and 24-hour service.

While rebuilt after fires in 1965 and 2003, the truck stop has operated continuously at the same location for over 95 years. The current building houses a museum showcasing Route 66 and trucking memorabilia.
