The Story

William Mitchell opened this diner in 1923, three years before Route 66 was designated. His son Lou took over and ran it well into his seventies, establishing traditions that continue today.

Every customer gets fresh donut holes while waiting, and women and children receive complimentary Milk Duds - a tradition since 1958. Located just blocks from Union Station and the Route 66 'Begin' sign, Lou Mitchell's has served over 1,200 customers daily for a century.
