The Story
The Luna Café opened in 1924, two years before Route 66 and during Prohibition. Local legend claims Al Capone used a tunnel beneath the restaurant during the speakeasy era, though no tunnel has been confirmed.
When Route 66 came through, Luna Café became a popular stopping point for travelers heading to or from the Chain of Rocks Bridge. The neon moon sign has beckoned visitors for nearly a century.
