The story
Prince opened Paisley Park in 1987 as his own private creative universe - a 65,000-square-foot complex with recording studios, rehearsal stages, and video editing suites. Painted purple, naturally. He recorded most of his later albums here and rarely left.
On April 21, 2016, Prince was found unresponsive in an elevator at Paisley Park. He was 57. The cause: accidental fentanyl overdose. He had been taking counterfeit pills he believed were Vicodin. Six days earlier, his plane had made an emergency landing so he could be revived from an overdose - a warning that went unheeded.
Prince was intensely private about Paisley Park during his lifetime. He would host dance parties there but forbid photography. Now thousands tour the space he worked so hard to protect.
What's There Now
Open for tours since October 2016. Visitors can see Studio A, the soundstage, and Prince's ashes in a custom urn shaped like Paisley Park itself.
