The story

Manuel Maloof opened the tavern in 1956 in a commercial building from around 1922. Maloof was politically active himself, and in 1974 he was elected to the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners. In 1970 Jimmy Carter announced his campaign for governor here.

In 2015 Maloof's son Brian sold the property to developers. The bar closed that December for extensive renovations and reopened the following July.
