The story
Abe Weinstein started in Dallas nightlife in the early 1930s with the Triangle Club on Main Street. From 1940 to 1947 he ran Abe and Pappy's at 1322 Commerce Street with a partner, Carl Dolsen. When Dolsen left, the club was renamed Abe's Colony Club.
It was a burlesque house, and the Dallas Historical Society's account says it drew visitors with high-quality entertainment. Weinstein retired in 1972. Jack Ruby's Carousel Club was a few doors down, and the two were rivals. A 1962 ad shows the Colony Club billing itself with the line the best of the undressed.
