The story
Frank and Loretta Kelly turned a candy store under the Webster Avenue L tracks into the El Side Tavern the day after repeal in December 1933; their son John took over in 1957 and the family still runs it, making Kelly's Pub the oldest continuously family-owned tavern on the North Side. Tables carry the Greek letters of DePaul fraternities, and the patio was built to stage a scene in the 1986 film About Last Night.
