The story

Partners Sam Vardalos and Nick Apostolopoulos reopened 18 W. Busse Avenue in early 2024 as Mount Prospect Public House, with live acoustic music, a late-night bar and private event space, ending a decade of vacancy on the downtown block.

Everything that was here

Did you know?

Today the building houses MP Public House (opened 2024), continuing nearly a century of hospitality and entertainment.
After the bowling alley closed in 1965, the space became Al's Old Town Inn, which operated until 2017 - a 52-year run.
A devastating fire broke out in the basement in 1950, but the business reopened as Mount Prospect Bowling Lanes under new owner Frank Stauber.
Built in 1924, this building opened as Mount Prospect Recreation in 1927, offering six bowling lanes, four billiard tables, and soda fountain service.
