The Story
The spring had changed hands several times in the early-1880s land rush — reportedly once traded for a horse worth $35 — before Fred Evans bought the property in 1890 and built a large pool structure directly over the springs, capitalizing on Hot Springs' boom as a Gilded Age mineral-water resort. The naturally ~87°F water still flows continuously through the pool. The original 1890 building was replaced in the 1970s over the same springs, and the City of Hot Springs took over ownership in 2013.
