The story

In January 2013, longtime Palatine residents Walt Oswald and Jimmy Iuorio purchased the restaurant to save it from auction. They renovated the building extensively over three months, updating plumbing, electric, kitchen, roof, walls, floors, and furniture, while maintaining the historic charm. They rebranded it as "Brandt's of Palatine" and reopened in April 2013.
The restaurant continues to be known for its 1/2 lb burgers, ribs, cheese curds, and Wisconsin supper club atmosphere. It features the original cozy dining room inside the historic farmhouse, plus a modern covered outdoor deck.

In January 2013, longtime Palatine residents Walt Oswald and Jimmy Iuorio purchased the restaurant at auction to save it, reopening it as 'Brandt's of Palatine' in April 2013.
A devastating fire in 2002 closed Brandt's for several months. By 2012, rising property taxes and financial trouble led to foreclosure.
The Brandt family operated Brandt's Little Cafe here from 1969-2013 - a 44-year run serving burgers, ribs, and maintaining a neighborhood atmosphere.
After Prohibition ended in 1933, the building continued as an illegal gambling establishment until Roger Touhy was framed and imprisoned by Al Capone's organization.
Roger Touhy supplied beer throughout Chicago's northwest suburbs, and the building allegedly witnessed at least one gunfight between rival gangsters.
From 1930-1933, bootleggers Roger Touhy and Matt Kolb operated the building as an illegal speakeasy during Prohibition's final years.
This building has one of the most fascinating histories in Palatine - it was originally built as a farmhouse in 1883 in Inverness, Illinois, then moved to its current location around 1930.
