The story
Fred Mikes founded Mikes Bike Shop in 1959 at 55 W. Wood Street, moved it to 36 W. Wilson in 1965, and his son Wayne, owner since 1979, moved it to 155 N. Northwest Highway in November 1987. The name is the family surname, a rhyme with bikes, and Harriet Mikes's nickname for her husband Fred.
