The story

Trees opened in May 1990 at 2709 Elm Street in Deep Ellum. Wikipedia says it was named for the trunk-like support beams inside. Owners Clint and Whitney Barlow ran it, and Clint Barlow was a former drummer for Vanilla Ice.

Its best-known night came on October 19, 1991, when Nirvana played a sold-out show that the article calls infamous, with security clashes, Kurt Cobain smashing his guitar and a fight with a guard. Trees closed in May 2005 and reopened on August 14, 2009, under the Barlows. Later shows included Deftones in a secret album release in 2010 and the first sold-out show for Post Malone in 2015.

It is operating as a live music venue.
