The story
The Sons of Hermann, a national fraternal organization that came to Texas in the 1890s to preserve German traditions and help German immigrants settle in, built the Dallas chapter's headquarters at 3414 Elm Street in 1910. The group held annual parades and festivals, ran a school teaching German to children, and pushed for a German Day at the State Fair.
The building housed a dance hall, a bowling alley and a meeting hall. It is now a music and event venue in the Deep Ellum arts district, and it keeps its connection to the state headquarters in San Antonio and the national order. Wikipedia's Deep Ellum article notes that older artists such as Ronnie Dawson and Ray Wylie Hubbard found new audiences there in the 1990s and after.
