The story
The Chalk Hill Drive-In opened on July 4, 1941, two weeks after the Northwest Drive-In, with The Invisible Woman as the first film. It sat on 12.5 acres with 204 in-ground speakers and room for 408 cars. A playground was added later. From 1943 it offered live stage performances before the films.
In 1954 it installed an 80-foot curved screen for CinemaScope, opening with King of the Khyber Rifles and The Robe. The tower was updated with a clown face and neon. In 1972 and 1973 it belonged to the Texas Southwest Drive-In Theatres circuit. It closed for the season in 1973 and never reopened. A commenter shared 1974 WFAA footage of the demolition. The listing records no later advertisements, bookings or reopening announcements after that last season.
