The story
The drive-in opened before 1954 as the Hyland Drive-In Theatre and was renamed the Highland in 1961. That year a $400,000 remodel added twin screens, a new parking area, snack bar, playground, restrooms and projection equipment. The original screen tower was concrete, with Highland in large letters on its back side.
Salt Lake City business directory listings show it operating through August 1982, after which it was closed and later demolished. Drive-ins.com reports the site is now residential, including the Holiday Hill Apartments.
