The story

The Orlando Municipal Auditorium opened on February 21, 1927, with a performance of Aida by the La Scala Grand Opera Company. It was proposed in 1925, and land reserved for the Orange County Fair was used for it in 1926.

Renovations were approved in 1974 and began in October 1975, and the venue was renamed the Mayor Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre in May 1978. It hosted the Florida Symphony Orchestra, Orlando Opera, Orlando Ballet, Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and Broadway Across America. The Dr. Phillips Center opened in 2014, and many performances moved there. In 2013 the site was folded into the Creative Village plan, and in 2023 Mayor Buddy Dyer announced plans to convert the theater into a town square for technology.

The city owns it, and a 2023 plan called for turning it into a town square for technology.
