The story
Ike Sewell, a former University of Texas football player, and Ric Riccardo opened Pizzeria Uno at Ohio and Wabash in 1943. A 1956 Chicago Daily News story credited the recipe to their cook Rudy Malnati Sr., whose son Lou later founded Lou Malnati's. Pizzeria Due followed a block north in 1955, and the name became a national chain of 36 restaurants.
