The story

Darius Wood built this store in 1864 facing Plum Grove Road and ran the Palatine post office from it for a decade. His 1873 newspaper advertisement offered staples and dry goods alongside the other merchants of the day: Smith Bros. stoves, N. Peck wagons, F. J. Filbert's drug store and G. H. Clayson's nursery. The store closed and the building became a residence, which it remains.
