The story
Built in 1801–1803 and enlarged in 1836 in the eastern Lemko tradition, this is a single-nave log structure clad in vertical boarding, with octagonal domes over the main sections and five dome-topped turrets carrying mock lanterns, bulbous finials and forged crosses. The iconostasis was made in 1895 by Josyp Bukowczyk, the polychrome dates to 1898, and the church holds around fifteen hand-embroidered processional banners. Its confession followed the politics: Orthodox in origin, then Greek Catholic, then Roman Catholic from 1947 to 1961 after Operation Vistula emptied the surrounding villages, and Orthodox again since 1963. On 21 June 2013 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as one of sixteen components of "Wooden Tserkvas of the Carpathian Region in Poland and Ukraine" (ref. 1424), eight of them in Poland. About 30 km southeast of Rymanów.
