The story

Jews are documented in Rymanów from at least 1567, with a kehilla, a synagogue first mentioned in 1593, and a cemetery all in place by the end of that century. Trade centred on the Rynek, and the Jewish quarter lay northwest of it around the synagogue. The community stayed close to half the town for centuries: about 42.8 percent in 1765, roughly 47 percent on a 1786 tax roll, 42.6 percent in 1880, near 47 percent around 1898, and about 40 percent in 1921. From the 18th century Rymanów was a centre of Hasidism in western Galicia under Menachem Mendel, and it drew pilgrims well into the modern era. The community was destroyed in August 1942. This building, known as Malka's Jewish House, survives as a recognised domestic remnant of that town.
