The story
The Baby Grand Theatre on Park Avenue is listed as opening on February 1, 1917, according to a Rollins College archive cited by a commenter. Another commenter, citing a Winter Park Historical Museum exhibit, says it was built in 1911 for silent pictures by Mr. Beacham, who also owned Orlando theaters. The sources conflict. It was rebuilt in 1927.
Universal Chain Theatrical Enterprises took it over, and E.J. Sparks later did, with dates that vary by commenter. The theater closed in 1940 when the Colony Theatre opened. It reopened briefly in 1947 under Florida State Theaters, showing westerns and adventure films, and closed again within a year. It now houses retail and real estate office space, and one commenter says nothing remains of its facade or interior.
